Directory Code of Conduct
The standards a directory editor agrees to when they take charge of their group's entry.
Version V2, in force from 29 September 2026. Adopted by decision of the Board.
1. Purpose
The Australian Voices Groups Directory exists to help independent, community-based Voices Groups around Australia find and connect with each other. Being trusted with access to other groups’ contact details is a genuine responsibility. This Code of Conduct sets out exactly what that responsibility involves for anyone acting as a Directory Editor.
2. Appropriate Use of Directory Information
Information in the Australian Voices Groups Directory — including any Voices Group’s contact details or organisational information — may only be used for genuine, respectful collaboration between Voices Groups and their members. This means things like reaching out to share experience, coordinate on shared issues, or invite another group to collaborate on a Backgrounder. It does not include using directory information for any commercial purpose, for personal or political campaigning unrelated to the directory’s collaborative purpose, or for contacting individuals about anything unrelated to their role in their Voices Group.
3. No Sale or Disclosure to Third Parties
You must never sell, rent, trade, or otherwise pass on any information from the Australian Voices Groups Directory to any person or organisation outside the Voices Group network — including political parties, commercial businesses, data brokers, or campaign organisations of any kind. This applies regardless of whether money changes hands.
4. Confidentiality
Everything on a group’s listing is public. If another Voices Group shares something with you directly that is not on its listing — for example a draft plan, or a contact person’s details — treat it the way you’d want your own group’s information treated: with discretion, and passed on only with the consent of the group it belongs to.
5. Privacy Act Obligations
Any personal information you access through the Directory is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) in the same way NCV’s own Privacy Policy describes for our own Members and Friends. You must handle this information securely, use it only for the purpose it was provided, and never disclose it in a way the person who provided it wouldn’t reasonably expect.
6. Becoming a Friend of NCV
Registering as a Directory Editor also registers you as a Friend of NCV. This means you separately agree to, and must comply with, NCV’s own Code of Conduct and Terms of Service, and confirm you have read and understood our Privacy Policy. This directory-specific Code of Conduct applies in addition to those obligations and to the Australian Voices Groups Directory Terms of Service, not instead of them — it covers the things specific to handling other Voices Groups’ information that NCV’s general Code of Conduct doesn’t address.
7. Breach of this Code
If you use Directory information inappropriately, sell or disclose it, or otherwise breach this Code, NCV may remove your access as a Directory Editor and remove or hide your organisation’s listing, without needing your prior consent — though we’ll always try to let your Voices Group know first, so they can nominate a new editor if needed.
