First Nations Recognition and Voice

What is a Backgrounder? This is background information, not policy — a shared, evidence-based starting point for Voices Groups nationally. NCV does not develop or endorse policy positions. Turning this background into an actual policy platform is the responsibility of the Independent candidates NCV may endorse, as set out in each candidate's Endorsement Agreement.

Background

Constitutional recognition, local and regional Voice mechanisms, and practical steps toward closing gaps in health, education and justice outcomes for First Nations communities remain significant national conversations following the 2023 referendum. Voices Groups in many areas continue to seek locally-appropriate ways to support genuine partnership and better outcomes with First Nations communities.

This is an illustrative Backgrounder, created to demonstrate the Backgrounder Library's structure — it is not yet based on compiled source research.
