Our focus on transport across the Northside area
The Transport Working Group is interested in improving planning of future transport needs and management of existing transport operations across the whole of the City of Moreton Bay. We are interested in connecting with people around Caboolture and those likely to affected by the construction of the duplicate route of the Bruce Highway through the western suburbs and the areas of future urban development to the west of the railway.
Our members are engaging with Council on the active transport issues around Samford, which we are promoting as “Samford Valley – Brisbane’s Home of Cycling“.
Samford Area Active Transport Plan
Scheme 1 ― Safe routes
This scheme currently comprises two modules:
Module 1 Improvements to shared paths and on-road cycling conditions on routes routinely used to travel to and from schools in Samford, based on the safety audit presented to the former and current(2026) Division 10 councillors.
Module 2 Improvements to intersections to make crossing the approach roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians. The first intersection identified lies on the Samford to Ferny Grove Cycle Link where the route along McLean Road crosses Camp Mountain Road. The work would involve introducing appropriate traffic control devices to address poor sightlines and high traffic speeds, particularly
on the western approach to the intersection.
Scheme 2 ― Samford to Ferny Grove Cycle Link
Scheme 2 comprises two modules, each comprising stages conceived and listed in order of the how construction would progress. Each stage could be considered as separate works in time as well as location:
Module 1 Peterson Road to Samford Village extension
Stage 1 Extension of the Samford to Ferny Grove Cycle Link from Peterson Road to Samford Road, constructed to the same standard as the existing rail trail, making use of the property at 85 Peterson Road purchased by Council under the Land Buyback program.
Stage 2 Construction of an interim pedestrian/bike crossing on Samford Road to connect the proposed extended bikeway to the northwest side of Scheldt Bridge.
Stage 3 Further extension of the Samford to Ferny Grove Cycle Link involving the reconstruction of Scheldt Bridge, raised to include a flood-proof wider carriageway, the addition of shoulders and standard shared paths on both sides and sufficient headroom for a shared path crossing beneath Samford Road, and construction of an offroad shared path extending to Cash Avenue, constructed to the same standard as
the existing rail trail. This project would be a significant improvement for not only pedestrians and cyclists, but also motor vehicles travelling on Samford Road, in keeping with road improvements that have already been completed further east.
Module 2 Lanita Court to McLean Road North shared path
Stage 1 Extension of the Samford to Ferny Grove Cycle Link to Camp Mountain Road along the eastern side of McLean Road South and Lanita Court, constructed to the same standard as the existing rail trail.
Stage 2 An active transport bridge across Camp Mountain Road to connect McLean Road South to McLean Road North, resolving safety issues for cyclists and pedestrians crossing Camp Mountain Road, with significant improvement to the existing steep grades on either side.
Scheme 3 – Samford Valley Cycle Loop
This stage involves implementation of works to widen pavement shoulders in areas considered unsafe for cyclists and formal definition of the Samford Valley Cycle Loop using route signage and pavement markings.
Stage 1 Provision of hard shoulders at least 600 mm wide on all sections of the route. This applies mainly in the Greggs and Gibbons Roads part of the loop where the shoulders are in poor repair or non-existent.
Stage 2 Identification/branding of the entire loop with SVCL cycle loop logo signage. Cycle path green paint applied in relevant sections, such as intersections. SVCL turning indicator signs on posts at intersections where the route changes direction.
