How we listened

We have listened to Northside residents inĀ  a wide range of meetings and events, conducted surveys, sponsored petitions and collected priorities for desired outcomes directly from our website. Where we can we have grouped similar views and expectations that were expressed in similar language and done background research and fact checking using the resources of volunteer members with relevant experience in Working Groups to refine and focus your message.

Your top priorities

This is a regularly updated list of the main themes or topics that keep coming up in our conversations with members and Northside residents:

NCV Response

Energy

Every household in Qld has some degree of access to renewable energy generation and storage.

This is a mix of federal and state responsibilities. The current energy crisis caused by the gulf war has exposed our very poor risk mitigation strategy at all levels of government. Electric vehicles powered by rooftop solar and battery storage would protect Northside households from energy shocks, natural disasters and soaring energy costs.

Transport

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure is installed and maintained by CoMB in every major Northside centre and in all Council depots and offices.

Council needs to urgently update their Sustainability Strategy. There is no excuse for Council not to adopt a much more ambitious target than 2039 to achieve net zero operation. Council should immediately install chargers for cars, trucks and landscaping machinery and tools, with solar panels on every available roof and parking structure.Ā

AUKUS

Get out of the AUKUS nuclear submarine deal with the US immediately.

With the increasingly erratic and illegal behaviour of the USĀ  in international affairs, Australia should begin a strategy of self reliance, building a base of funding training and educating our workforce and investment in critical manufacturing and supply chain logistics. This is prudent risk management and lays a platform for defence platforms that reinforce our geographical advantages, rather than nuclear submarines that may or may not eventuate and will always serve the interests of the USA, not Australia.

RECONCILIATION

Engage meaningfully with First Nations communities and expedite their priorities in regard to their Voice, Treaty, Truth Telling and Closing the Gap on Indigenous disadvantage.

NCV wishes to foster the formation of a Working Group of Indigenous residents and supporters to work with the appropriate elders and descendants of the First Nations inhabitants of the Northside area, existing organisations and interested parties. We would like to see real progress towards reconciliation and their main priorities, particularly at the state government level, where support has been reversed and the gap widened in recent years.Ā
