Monthly report of progress
April Update
The State Government has called a by-election following the unfortunate death of the former Labor member for Stafford Jimmy Sullivan. Even though the Stafford electorate is outside our area, NCV has conducted a search for a suitable independent candidate. This has been difficult at very short notice and although we had several expressions of interest, we have so far been unable to find a suitable candidate.
Our focus has now moved on, but having the Stafford by-election called at such short notice has raised the urgency with which we are now seeking to identify people who may become candidates in any of the local, state or federal electorates in 2028. We are asking people who may consider standing as an independent, or if you know of anyone who might be suitable, to lodge an Expression of Interest.
The improvements to the functionality of the website are proceeding well. Everybody (Members, Friends and members of the public) are now able to use the form on the website at https://www.ncvoices.org.au/priorities/tell-us-your-priorities/ to record their priorities for outcomes that they wish to see occur.
The process for joining has also been simplified by allowing anyone to firstly become a “Friend of NCV” and then later, if they wish to volunteer or become more involved in our activities they can “Upgrade to full Membership“.
March Update
We now have about 35 members and the Board is working on a range of approaches to get more people actively involved. We have held “Meetings in the Park” at Strathpine and Ferny Hills and have now instigated regular “Coffee catch-ups at Petrie (Tuesdays at 9.30 am Strikers Coffee) and Samford (Wednesdays at 10 am The Latin Shack). Everybody welcome.
Zoe has started up our Northside Community Voices Facebook page and we are getting good exposure, but need more people to submit articles and photos.
